What a huge month we have had! Science Week fun, our school Disco, ‘Bully, No Way!’ day activities and awareness, the wonderful Book Week, and then the very exciting build up to our whole school Production.
During Science Week students were treated to a range of science activities both in the classroom and also as daily lunch time clubs. Students were part of online sessions such as ‘Dancing with a Digital Human’ where they learnt about how technology is being applied to sport science to help athletes perform at their best. We thank Mrs Clipperton for registering us for so many of these interactive sessions and to the teachers who gave up their lunch times to facilitate the sessions. Today Mrs Clipperton also took six of our senior STEM enthusiasts to Carrum Primary School to engage in all things science and technology with students from other local primary schools. So much to be excited about in the world of STEM!
Our school Disco was an absolute hit, thanks to Miss Lawrence’s organisation and to special guest DJ Enzo! Students enjoyed dancing along to their favourite tunes and playing games such as limbo. The sausages cooked up by Mr Munday and Miss Ebbott were devoured as the junior disco ended and the senior one began. Events like this bring the community together and create long lasting memories for our students.
Book Week has been a terrific chance for students to engage in literacy and enjoy hearing from author Lian Tanner. Lian is the author of Spellhound and the Keepers Trilogy. Lian shared her top tips for writing which included writing about things you love, making drawings as part of the stories you write, creating wonderful villains, challenging yourself, and making up stories with a friend. Such great tips that we can take straight back to the classroom. As part of Book Week, we had our annual Book Week Dress Up Day and Parade – today in fact! Students and staff put in a huge amount of effort to come dressed as their favourite book characters. Thank you so much to everyone for making it a terrific couple of weeks, and to Miss Culshaw and Mrs Evans for organising these events for us.
We are thankful that Miss Lawrence and Miss Culshaw provided us with resources and a special assembly to bring awareness to bullying, on ‘Bully, No Way!’ Day. Assembly proved powerful with a student from each class acknowledged for their ‘bucket filling’ ways. The role play that we watched highlighted the role of a bystander and helped us understand that we all have a voice when it comes to bullying. We were reminded that bullying is repeated and on-going actions towards someone, and about what we can do to address such behaviours. During this assembly ‘Outside Superstars’ was introduced, an initiative put together by Miss A and 5A to support our new Positive Behaviour Plan. Teachers and Peer Mediators will be on the lookout for students doing the right thing at recess and lunch, which includes following our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Relationships. Those seen doing this will be given a ‘star’ and can hand this to their classroom teacher for ten house points. The team with the winning amount of points at the end of the term will be rewarded with a special event. The aim is to highlight great behaviour while working as part of team.
Production, here we come! Not long now, with tickets sales starting TODAY! Mr Rundell has everything in full swing, with classes learning lyrics and moves to a range of songs found in both old and new movies alike. Thank you so much to all involved, first and foremost Mr Rundell, for his tireless efforts, as well as all teachers and support staff for all of their organising of costumes and accessories. Thank you to the many wonderful parent and community helpers for their amazing support – you will see what we mean when you see the mind-blowing costumes and sets! Make sure you get your tickets, you won’t want to miss this show.
The end of term is just three short weeks away. As well as production, we still have our Fathers / Special Friends Stall and Breakfast, and our annual Footy Colours Day. I am hopeful to see more Chelsea students supporting my beloved Brisbane Lions this year at our footy parade and the teachers get a win over the students in the annual match!

Your friends and your teachers notice that you are away and wonder if you are OK.
Missing one day a fortnight is the same as missing 4 whole weeks of school a year.If your child is sick or absent from school, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of the absence, by logging into Compass or by phone 9773 2055.
Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.
All Victorian government schools are required to contact the parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence. If your child is absent on a particular day and you have not contacted the school to explain why, the absence will be marked as unexplained.
This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
Chelsea Primary School Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following up of student absences is available on the Chelsea Primary School website.
HELP SUPPORT THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO ARE HOMELESS OR STUGGLING TO FEED THEMSELVES.
On any given night, 122,494 people in Australia are experiencing homelessness due to lack of available finances, family violence and many other issues.
Homelessness is not “rooflessness”. The majority of homeless are people in crisis accommodation, rooming houses, insecure housing, overcrowded dwellings or couch surfing.
We invite you to help during the month of August by donating non-perishable food items to the boxes outside the staff room at Chelsea Primary School by Thursday 31st August.
Examples of items are cans food like can fruit, can vegetables, can soups, can tuna, cereal, dry pasta, rice and noodles, oats, powder milk, dried fruits, pasta sauce, jam spreads, vegemite, honey, lentils, dried beans, crackers and noodles.
The food will be passed onto Chelsea Community Church of Christ to ensure they can continue providing those in need to alleviate their food insecurity.
Dear Foundation Students and Parents,
We're excited to share the wonderful experiences and achievements from the past few weeks.
Here's a recap of what we've been up to:
Phonics Adventures: Our young learners have been exploring the Floss Rule, which helps us understand how to spell words with short vowel sounds. Additionally, we've revisited the Magic E Rule, discovering how the silent "e" at the end of words changes their sounds. Keep practicing those phonics skills, everyone!
Math Marvels: Mathematics has been a blast this term! Our mathematicians have been honing their counting skills by exploring numbers in multiples of 2. They've also been learning about sharing and division, discovering how to split objects into equal groups. These foundational concepts are setting the stage for more math adventures to come.
Bullying NoWay Day: On Bullying NoWay Day, we came together to spread kindness and understanding. Our students engaged in activities that highlighted the importance of being a good friend and supporting one another. It's heartwarming to see our young minds embracing empathy and compassion.
Science Week Spectacular: Science Week was a time of creativity and exploration! Our students had a blast creating their very own zoos, using their imagination to design habitats for various animals.
Prep Production Prep: Our Preps had an exciting time getting ready for their upcoming production! They got dressed up in their production outfits and posed for photos that captured their enthusiasm and teamwork. A huge shoutout goes to all the parents who contributed, big or small!
Thank you all for your continued support and engagement. It's been a term filled with growth, laughter, and learning. We look forward to the adventures that the next term will bring!
Production is fast approaching and the students are getting excited to show off what they have been working so hard at all term! We had production photos this week and the students loved trying on their costumes for the first time. A big shout out to all the parents that have helped put the costumes and props altogether!
We had a busy week last week.
Book Week started early as we had a special visit from author, Lian Tanner. Lian wrote the book Ella and the Ocean, which she read to the students and Rita`s Revenge, which Harvey later found in the 1S book shelf. The students learnt about Lian`s background, her writing process and she then wrote a story with the students. They then had the opportunity to create their own stories.
It was also Science Week! Mrs Clipperton sourced a number of online opportunities for students to participate in. In one of the sessions, students were able to dance with a digital human, which was created by CSIRO. They learnt about how technology is applied to human movement and sport science to help athletes perform at their best.
In literacy, both year one and two have had a focus on rhyming and poetry. Students have enjoyed being immersed in poetry through storybooks and poems. They are exploring different types of poetry such as Couplet, Haiku and Limerick. Students are discussing the required features and structure of a poem and have a go at writing their own.
We are very much looking forward to what the end of term has install for us all, with production only a couple of weeks away!
The Junior Team
Annyeonghaseyo! Kon'nichiwa! NÇ hÇŽo! Hello!
On Wednesday, our grade 5 and 6 classes invited students, staff and families to visit the Senior School Geography Project Travel Expo.
The Year 5 and 6 students had been working hard, in pairs, to prepare informative and persuasive displays about their country of choice, to demonstrate its uniqueness and convince expo attendees to visit their location.
The Grade 5 classes chose countries of Europe, and the Grade 6s chose countries of Asia.
At the event, expo visitors received a token to vote for their favourite display. The student pair from each grade who received the most tokens at the end of the expo won a prize!
We were so proud of all our students who put an outstanding effort into their exhibits.
OTHER NEWS FROM #TEAMSENIOR:
National Science Week was a wonderful celebration of science and technology, thanks to the great organisation of Mrs Clipperton.
Students increased their understanding of AI technology and Mr Munday hosted a fantastic online meet with Katherine Bennell-Pegg who is the Australian Space Agency's first person to be trained as an astronaut under the Australian Flag.
We also had a highly anticipated author visit from Lian Tanner who shared her 5 ways to have fun with story writing. These were:
Korean Teacher Incursion: Our students welcomed teachers from South Korea who are part of the Global LYNCs project. They talked to our students about Korean culture and in return, we quizzed them about Australian culture. Thank you Miss Oh for organising this wonderful opportunity and to students, Levi and Cindell for being fantastic Quiz Masters!
Somers Camp: What an incredible opportunity this was! 22 of our students enjoyed 9 days of Outdoor Education and team building activities, and returned to school beaming about the new friendships they had made.
Well done Years 5 and 6 – it certainly has been an action packed term.
