Students started learning Korean Language in 2012 at Chelsea Primary School. The Korean Language Program has been developed through the adoption of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) pedagogy since 2015. In this program students learn Science through Korean language activities.
We also engage via video conferencing with our sister schools in Daegu every fortnight. Through virtual tools using Webex, students plan, share, discuss and present different topics to Korean friends. Grade 3 to 6 students all participate in the web-cam lessons at Chelsea Primary School. Students learn how to communicate with students from other countries which gives the students opportunities to use their Korean language skills practically at school. At the end of the year, all CPS students exchanged hand-made gifts and cards. The students build strong relationships with Korean students in this project and hence improved their language skills with strong motivations and engagements.
All students from prep to grade 6 have 40 minutes of CLIL (KOREAN) lessons. Every year in term 4, we celebrate Korean Day and it is one of the biggest events at CPS. All students participate, perform and enjoy the Korean Day assembly, a Korean BBQ Lunch and Korean lollies. Each classroom teacher prepares a special cultural lesson about Korean culture (Korean Art, dance, music and games). Students, parents and the Chelsea community are welcomed to come and celebrate our Korean Day!
Term 3 - 2019 For Korean lessons, students will introduce our culture, food and sport to our Korean sister schools through web cam lessons. Students will practise to present bilingually using different tools such as Word, Power Point and posters.
Tae Kwon Do club on Tuesday lunchtime will start from week 2. We have awesome Tae Kwon Do students at our Chelsea Primary school. They will be performing their Tae Kwon Do skills on Korean Day next term. If you need forms, please ask the office.
It’s a great news! Korean Day is coming. It will be 31st of October, term 4. Students will practise their performance (K-pop, fan dance and mask dance) during this term 3. For our Korean Day, students from Korea Tae Kwon Do association will visit our school from Korea. We will do fun activities together. How exciting to meet Korean friends!
