Student Absences

It is a requirement of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development that accurate records of students absences are kept by the school. We appreciate parent support in notifying the school of their child’s absence.

Contacting the school to report a student absence
Parents/guardians are asked to ring the school office prior to 8.30am or enter the absence via our Parent Portal - Compass (use your phone App or log in via the log on the front page of this website).

From the Compass home screen (or from your student's profile), click to "Actions for" button for your child and select the "Add Parent Approval" item.  From the pop-up window:

  • select the reason
  • enter a brief description of the absence
  • select the start and finish time
  • click the 'Save' button

We appreciate as much notice as possible if your child will be away from school due to a family holiday.

Attendance at school is compulsory, five days a week. Apart from the legal requirements for attendance, it is important that students gain continuity in their education in order to move ahead as they should.

The school recognises that for a variety of sound reasons, such as illness, dental appointments, family emergencies etc and that students may not be able to attend on every day of school. In such cases, an exemption from school is granted and recorded in the roles.

It's Not OK to Be Away is a statewide initiative building a school and community approach to the issue of student attendance. The initiative is designed to change community and student attitudes to school attendance. It requires the support of both parents and the community if student attendance is to be successfully addressed.

It's Not OK to Be Away promotes two key messages:

  • Student attendance is the responsibility of everyone in the community
  • Effective Schools monitor, communicate and implement strategies to improve regular school attendance, as this is a prerequisite for improving educational outcomes

Parents and caregivers are powerful figures in influencing the behaviour of young people. Please click on this link below to access the DEECD brochure - It's not OK to be away
