Cannot wait to see what exciting things Term three holds for us! (do we hear a whisper of a production and a big event on the turf?)
See you just before 8.50 am on Monday 15th July.
NEWS FROM THE PREP TEAM!
As we reach the midpoint of our first year at school, it’s incredible to see how much our Prep students have accomplished and grown. From mastering new phonics skills to exploring the world through Integrated Studies, they’ve truly embraced every learning opportunity with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Phonics Adventures with Magic e
In Phonics, our students have embarked on an exciting journey with Magic e! This superhero letter adds a twist to words by giving its power to the short vowel, magically transforming it to say its own name. The students have delighted in discovering how this simple change can completely alter the sound and meaning of words.
Creative Writing in English
In English, creativity has been at the forefront as students eagerly share their weekend adventures every Monday by writing ‘Weekend Recounts’. They’ve been honing their punctuation skills, mastering the use of different markers in sentences, such as full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. Additionally, after reading Alison Lester’s captivating book, 'Imagine,' the Preps have been using their imaginations and senses to clearly describe settings, painting pictures with their words.
Mathematical Marvels
Over in Maths, our focus has been on building a strong foundation. We’ve been reinforcing our understanding of Friends of Ten, ensuring fluency in recalling these essential maths facts. Skip counting by 2s has also been a fun and engaging way to strengthen our grasp of numbers. Exploring shapes has been equally thrilling, with students delving into the meanings behind morphological prefixes like 'tri-' (three) and 'hexa-' (six), bringing a deeper understanding to their mathematical explorations.
Exploring Our World in Integrated Studies
In Integrated Studies, we’ve embarked on a journey across our vast continent, Australia. Our students have been discovering the eight states and territories, learning their locations on a map, and exploring the unique characteristics that make each region special. It’s been a fascinating exploration of geography and culture right from our classroom.
Embracing Challenges in the Learning Pit
Every day, our students courageously dive into the Learning Pit, embracing challenges and emerging with a sense of achievement and growth. Their resilience and determination have been inspiring to witness, and it’s clear that they are becoming confident and capable learners.
Celebrating Talent and Spirit
One of the highlights this term was our whole school talent show, where some of our Prep students showcased their incredible talents. From energetic performances inspired by Taylor Swift and the Spice Girls to funky renditions of Bruno Mars, their courage and spirit shone brightly on stage. The entire school community enjoyed cheering them on, celebrating their talents, and most importantly, having fun together.
Celebrating Achievements
As we reflect on the incredible progress our Prep students have made this term, we couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and dedication. It’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown, and we are excited to continue this wonderful journey of learning and discovery together.
Looking Ahead
As we approach the well-deserved holiday break, we encourage you to cherish this time together as a family. Rest, rejuvenate, and create lasting memories. We look forward to welcoming our students back for another exciting term filled with new adventures and continued growth.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday!
Maddie, Marie and Sam
The Junior School has had an excellent start to winter, filled with enriching activities and memorable experiences!
Our Year 2 students had an incredible time on their excursion to the Melbourne Museum, where they explored various exhibits and deepened their understanding of ‘Grandmothers Toy Box’ conveying history through toys. The Year 1 students, on the other hand, had a fantastic adventure at the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens - Shared Country experience. This visit perfectly complemented their English curriculum focus on Dreamtime stories. The knowledge they gained from this unit, combined with insights from our Living Cultures Indigenous incursion, equipped them well enough to fully engage and immerse themselves in the rich cultural experiences the Gardens had to offer.
Friday was a particularly exciting day as we celebrated both Chelsea’s Got Talent and World Music Day. The school was filled with vibrant energy as students showcased their talents and embraced the spirit of music and performance. Everyone looked phenomenal in their outfits, adding a touch of glamour and festivity to the events. A special commendation goes to all the brave participants of Chelsea’s Got Talent, whose performances were truly inspiring and showcased the diverse talents within our school community.
Well done to everyone for making these events so special and for your continued enthusiasm and participation. Enjoy the upcoming school holidays and stay warm!
We will see you all fresh and ready for Term 3.
Year 4 Cohort Newsletter
As we wrap up another term, we are proud to highlight the hard work and achievements of our Year 4 cohort. This term has been one of growth, learning, and excitement across various subjects and activities.
Our students have been diligently improving their numeracy skills, focusing on multiplication. The dedication displayed and hard work is paying off as they prepare to advance into long division next term. The progress they have made is impressive, and we are confident they will excel in the new challenges ahead.
In English, we concluded our unit on "Treasure Island." The students have been fully immersed in this classic adventure tale, and they are now finalising their treasure maps, which beautifully showcase their creativity and understanding of the text. This engaging project has been a wonderful way to wrap up the term, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a fun and imaginative way.
Incursions: Living Cultures and Maps and Mayhem
We were fortunate to participate in two exciting incursions this term.
Chelsea's Got Talent: Showcasing Talent and Creativity
We ended the term with a bang at "Chelsea's Got Talent." Our Year 4 students impressed everyone with their performances. Multiple students represented our school, making their teachers, peers, families, and the broader community incredibly proud. Their talent and creativity were on full display, and it was a joyous way to celebrate the end of an 11-week term.
We are immensely proud of our Year 4 cohort and all they have achieved this term. Their hard work, curiosity, and enthusiasm make them a joy to teach. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and success in the coming term.
Well done, Year 4!
What an awesome term we have had!! We are so proud of all the senior students for consistently displaying the Chelsea Primary School Values to a high standard throughout the term. Your dedication and commitment to these have not gone unnoticed, and it’s wonderful to see the positive impact these values have on our school community.
English
This term, our English curriculum has been enriched with an exciting focus on novel studies, specifically "Boy Overboard." Students have engaged deeply with the themes and characters, fostering both analytical and creative thinking. Alongside our novel study, we have emphasized information report writing, allowing students to develop their research and writing skills. It has been wonderful to see the students' progress and enthusiasm in these areas.
Maths
In Maths, we have introduced new explicit teaching approaches to enhance understanding and engagement. One significant change has been the use of similar slides across the whole school, creating a cohesive and consistent learning experience. Additionally, there has been an increase in teacher demonstrations, providing students with clear, step-by-step guidance on various mathematical concepts. These methods have proven effective, and we are pleased with the students' positive responses and improved comprehension.
Inquiry
The highlight of our Inquiry unit this term was the Grade 5 Travel Expo. It was fantastic to see the entire school community involved in this event. Students worked hard to research and present their chosen countries, showcasing their findings in creative and informative ways. We are proud to announce that the winning presentation was on Spain that included Tegan, Aston and Willow. Congratulations to all the students for their incredible efforts.
Interschool Sport
Our weekly sport mornings have been great, providing students with the opportunity to develop teamwork and communication skills. It has been great to see students not only working with their peers from the senior school cohort but also interacting with students from surrounding areas. The Lightning Premiership was a highlight of the senior calendar, and it was fantastic to see all students displaying positive sportsmanship. This event truly showcased the spirit of our students as they competed with enthusiasm and respect. As we move into Term 3, students will have the opportunity to choose from the same sports offered in Term 2. These include AFL, Soccer, Netball, and Teeball. We look forward to seeing our students continue to develop their skills and enjoy these sporting activities.
As we wrap up this semester, we look forward to building on these successes and continuing to support our students' growth and learning. Thank you to all the parents and guardians for your ongoing support. Have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing everyone in Term 3!

Mrs Jakon, Mr Munday and Miss A
ART ROOM NEWS
Prep
Prep students have been having messy fun, exploring paint and texture by mixing secondary colours from primary coloured paint and using a range of tools to create interesting papers. They then used these papers to design and create interesting collages based on the style of Eric Carle. We were very impressed with their creativity and skill.
Year One
Year one students have been exploring collage and watercolour techniques this term. They have created a range of interesting textural paper, which they used to complete two different ocean themed collages. Focus was on demonstrating different watercolour techniques and showing the ability to consider composition by adding and taking away pieces to improve the artwork. Students should be very proud of themselves!
Year Two
Year Two students have been learning about the art of Claude Monet. We have been looking at how Monet uses colour to show light and how he shows perspective in his paintings. Students all worked so hard to draw a road or river heading into the distance showing one-point perspective. The results are impressive. We have also explored some of Monet’s paintings and students worked over several weeks to create a paper representation of the water lilies shown in many of his paintings. Fabulous work Year Two!
Year Three
Year Three students have been excitedly exploring the art concepts of printing, texture and colour. First they painted the backgrounds of their fish bowls blue, before stamping bright coloured coral. They then took on the challenge of making little patterned fish, using cardboard, wool and aluminium foil. We then moved onto learning to print, starting with different objects around the art room. Before moving onto using the book ‘Catch me if you can’ by Davis Styring and Jo Byatt to draw inspiration when drawing their underwater ocean scene, before printing different copies. All of the students worked really hard and should be proud of their finished work!
Year Four
Year Four students have been exploring the value of colour this term. We spent lots of time using different coloured paints, mixing and experimenting to create new colours. As well as a focus on different paint brush shapes and sizes, how to pack up and clean up, and painting techniques. First they painted a background, before adding further details to show the sand, water and sky. They also painted bright patterns and designs on their own beach boxes. The students thoroughly enjoyed painting and mixing colours!
Year Five
Year Five students have spent the whole term working in small groups to create ‘water’ inspired box constructions. The focus was on presentation and adding detail. The students needed to cooperatively plan and produce their work, as well as be creative with what resources they used. Lots of different ideas were taken from the water theme such as waterfalls, the artic, under the sea, SpongeBob SquarePants and rivers. I have been impressed by the thought process and trial and error used to create their masterpieces. Well done Grade Fives!
Year Six
Year Six students have been busy also exploring colour value. The students picked one colour and using white and black paint, created many different shades and tints. Their colourful artwork looked so effective up on display! They then built on these skills, painting the ocean using the same technique. Before adding shadows of sea creatures to their work. The focus was also on space and using size to create depth in their artwork. Once finished, the students are in the beginning stages of creating yet another felt masterpiece which they will complete next term!
NAIDOC Week Celebration
This year NAIDOC Week is celebrated in the school holidays. As an introduction to NAIDOC week all classes have been looking at Indigenous Art and exploring the story of Bunjil. All students created a feather in colours of the Earth which have been combined to create our very own Bunjil Art collaboration. Come and have a look next time you are at school!
