Principal's report

Dear Chelsea Primary School Community,

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break. As we embark on the second half of the school year, I am excited about the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead for our students and staff.

This term, we will continue to focus on teacher coaching through the AERO project, which aims to enhance our learning environment and support the growth and development of every student through teacher development and expertise. Our staff has been busy preparing engaging and enriching lessons, and I am confident that Term 3 will be filled with meaningful learning experiences.

We will continue to apply for grants for projects that will benefit our students. I deeply appreciate the support and active involvement from our community in these endeavours and look forward to sharing updates if we are successful with any grants.

As always, our unwavering commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and orderly educational experience remains our top priority. I encourage all families to stay engaged with our school community by attending events, participating in school activities, and staying informed through our communications.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. Let's make Term 3 a fantastic and productive term!

Warm regards,

Taylor Irish
Principal, Chelsea Primary School

Foundation News

Welcome back to Term 3! It's been a smooth transition for our Preps as they settle back into the school routine. We're thrilled to share the exciting activities and learning experiences planned for this term.

In Phonics, we've been reviewing magic 'e', digraphs, blends, and this week we're diving into the world of 'buzzy s'.

In Math, we're focusing on sharing into equal groups, developing key skills in understanding division and group dynamics.

Integrated studies are centered around the theme of 'Ourselves and Family'. Last week, the Preps enjoyed a delightful 'guess the baby' game.

Looking ahead, we're eagerly anticipating our 100 Days of Prep celebration next Tuesday, featuring a morning parade where families are warmly invited to join us. Foundation students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a 100 year old! It's a moment to celebrate the incredible progress and achievements of our Preps this year.

Additionally, excitement is building for our upcoming production, where the foundation students are super exciting to start learning their performances.

Here's to a fantastic Term 3 filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences for our wonderful Preps!

Junior School News

The Junior School has had an excellent start to Term 3, filled with new learning opportunities and the creation of new core memories.

This term we are continuing our focus on the school value of ‘Resilience’ and continuing to demonstrate our good learning behaviours. It is amazing to see so many students already showing this both inside and outside of the classroom!

A highlight this term already has been Pyjama Day, raising money for children in foster care. All students and teachers loved coming to school in their pyjamas and looked so comfortable whilst learning. We thank you for your generosity surrounding this day.

The Year 1 students are commencing their new Humanities unit covering Ancient China and Year 2 students are studying The Japanese Culture. The. Both Year levels are eager to learn more about the geography and history of their respective countries, as well as their traditions, local foods, sports, and traditional outfits.

We are looking forward to the CPS Olympics and Junior School Disco in the coming weeks!

Middle School News

We are thrilled to report a fantastic start to the term! Our students have quickly adapted to the new routines, showing resilience and enthusiasm.

One of the highlights so far has been Pyjama Day, which everyone absolutely loved! It was a fun and cosy way to build community spirit and kick off the term with a smile.

In academics, the students are diving into STEM with great interest. In Maths, students have learned about 3D objects, and have also been consolidating their addition and subtraction strategies. Next, we will move on to written multiplication and division methods. We are proud to see incredible improvement in the students' times tables, which they are now using to solve problems more efficiently.

Our English curriculum has introduced the fascinating topic of Ancient Rome, capturing much student interest. We have begun exploring the Gods and Goddesses of ancient times and are starting to understand the vast expanse of the Roman Empire. These lessons are even connecting to Maths through timelines. In Writing, the focus is on persuasive techniques, teaching students how to effectively influence others with their writing.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new student, Luka, in 3E.

Overall, it has been a great start to the term, and we cannot wait to see the amazing work our students will produce in the coming weeks!

Senior School News

Welcome back to Semester 2! We are thrilled to be back and are ready to dive into an exciting and productive term!

English and Maths
This term, our Grade 5 and Grade 6 students will be engaging in an in-depth novel study of "Holes" by Louis Sachar. This captivating story will serve as a central theme, helping us explore various literary elements, including poetry and narrative writing. Students will analyse characters, plot development, and themes, and they will create their own poems and narratives inspired by the novel.

In Maths, our focus will be on enhancing students' understanding of decimals and percentages. We will explore how these concepts interrelate and apply them to real-world scenarios, ensuring that students gain a solid grasp of these essential mathematical skills.

Humanities
Our Humanities unit this term will delve into the rich history of colonial Australia in the 1800s. We will investigate the social, economic, and political factors that contributed to Australia becoming a federation. Through engaging activities and projects, students will gain a deeper appreciation of Australia's journey to nationhood.

Sport
Inter-School Sports (ISS) will resume on the 26th of July. Students have chosen their preferred sports, and we have been conducting weekly training sessions to prepare for the upcoming competitions. We are confident that our students are well-prepared and excited to represent our school in various sports events.

Performing Arts News

It’s that time of the year, which we are bringing back the Chelsea School Production! It’s in full force and so many parts are moving to make this happen. So much we wish to share and present, but we don’t want to spoil all the surprises that Chelsea and the community have been working on.

This year’s concert will be ‘Adventure in the land of Zo’, inspired by The Wizard of Oz, but with a classic Chelsea twist. We will be following our protagonist Dorothy and her loyal dog Toto as they travel through the wacky land of Zo. Hijinks ensue as they meet otherworldly creatures and characters who try to help her back home, that’s if she even wants their help. Throughout this tale about home and belonging, musical numbers will occur on their journey for your viewing pleasure.

So many staff, parents and people in the community have been working hard on making the costumes and props come to life, students have begun rehearsing their dances and singing, with the Grade 6s also auditioning this week! The show will have two viewings on the 12th of September, both Matinee at 11:30 and Evening show at 6:30pm at Patterson River SC.

All of this wouldn’t have been possible with everyone’s effort. The students are pumped and so excited to bring back the magic once again. Here is just a glimpse of some of the work and effort they’ve put in. Hope to see you there!
