Welcome Back to Term 2!
We hope all our students, families, and staff had a restful and rejuvenating break. It’s wonderful to see our school community back for what promises to be an exciting and enriching Term 2. With a busy calendar ahead and some very special moments already unfolding, we’re off to a strong start!
Farewell to Assistant Principal Jan Smith
This term marks the end of an incredible chapter in our school’s story. After over 40 years of dedicated service, we say a fond farewell to our much-loved Assistant Principal, Jan Smith. Jan’s legacy is one of compassion, commitment, and tireless work for the betterment of every student who has passed through our doors. Her influence has shaped not just the academic life of the school, but also its spirit and culture. We thank Jan for her decades of leadership and inspiration, and we wish her all the very best in her well-earned retirement. She will be dearly missed.
Scott Darlow Incursion: A Powerful Learning Experience
Students had the privilege of participating in an inspiring incursion with Scott Darlow last week, an acclaimed Indigenous musician, author, and educator. Scott shared stories of his heritage, the importance of understanding Indigenous history, and what reconciliation means in practice. Through music and storytelling, students gained a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal culture and were encouraged to think critically about their roles in creating a more inclusive future. It was a powerful and memorable experience for all.
Hoodies Up Day
The theme of Hoodie Up in 2025 was My Positive Autistic Identity which was all about celebrating the strength, uniqueness, and pride of being Autistic.
The 2025 campaign, which we shared as a community on Tuesday 29 April, focused on embracing and uplifting the positive aspects of Autistic identity. It was about challenging limiting stereotypes and highlighted the incredible skills, perspectives, and joys that come with being Autistic. The campaign encouraged everyone to reflect on their own positive Autistic identity, while fostering a community that supports and creates space for Autistic people to confidently be their true selves.
Mother and Special Friends Stall and Afternoon
Our annual Mother and Special Friends Stall will be held onsite on Friday 9 May, giving students the opportunity to select a special gift. Please send your child along with between $2 and $8 and a bag to hide the gift in! Following this, we warmly invite all mums and special friends to join us for a lovely afternoon celebration with any combination of tea, treats, craft and student performances.
We look forward to sharing many more moments of learning and celebration together this term. Welcome back!

NEWSLETTER - FOUNDATION
We are so proud of our Foundation students for completing their first ever term of school! The last few weeks have been nothing short of exciting, filled with learning and the creation of more core memories.
In Phonics, we have made our way through single consonant letters and their corresponding sounds to help us decode, blend, and read words. We have also been practising our handwriting and learning to sound out words to spell.
In English, our focus has been writing and expanding sentences. We have explored the importance of incorporating WHO + WHAT, as well as WHEN and WHERE to add more information. Our preppies have just completed their first ever Weekend Recount, which is something we will now do every Monday! We have also been enjoying some wonderful mentor texts, including ‘Anzac Ted’, and ‘Let’s Eat’. These stories have helped us learn new vocabulary and make connections with the characters and gain insight into significant events like Anzac Day.
In Maths, we have been growing our number sense through explicit lessons on counting to 40, using tens frames, numicon, and exploring number bonds to understand addition. We have also been learning about subtraction, number lines and sorting collections into groups based on their characteristics. The students are especially loving representing teen numbers with different manipulatives.
In Integrated, we have completed our studies of Nursery Rhymes and Fables which the children adored and are moving onto Our Family History. The Foundation teachers are very excited to start this new topic and learn more about who the students are and where they come from.
A few major highlights over the past few school weeks have been Harmony Day, the Easter Bonnet Parade, and a visit from Scott Darlow (Aboriginal singer and songwriter). The Preps have absolutely loved sharing family photos on Harmony Day, as well as from their school holiday break. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow and friendships blossom. A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who have sent in photos, brought in cultural food, as well as most recently bringing in foil wrappers for our recycling initiative.
We are so pleased with the way all students have settled back into our school routines following the school holiday break. Our Foundation students are improving every day, continuing to blow our minds as they spread their wings and share their thinking. We can’t wait for more learning and exciting experiences like Mother’s Day and Athletics coming up!
From the Foundation Team,
Pamela, Marie, and Sam
Welcome back to Term 2!
The students have settled back into school life so well.
Late last term the school celebrated Harmony Day. It was a day filled with rich culture, lots of dancing and a feeling of inclusivity and acceptance. We had some beautiful cultural outfits worn, a whole school recess picnic full of dancing, singing and lots of smiles, sharing family photos/traditions, and delicious food brought in from students showcasing their culture. It was a day where we were able to gain a deeper understanding of our diversity.
We finished last term with our Easter Bonnett parade. It was such an amazing atmosphere, seeing the high participation rate and all of the beautiful Easter Bonnets the students created! We even had a visit from the Easter Bunny! It was lots of fun and a great way to end the first term.
Whilst the first week back was a short one, we still had some awesome experiences. The school was lucky enough to have an incursion where Scott Darlow - an Aboriginal singer and songwriter, came and spoke to the students. He spoke about his rich Indigenous culture and all that encompasses. He told dreamtime stories, giving insight into his own personal experiences and upbringing. Playing the Didgeridoo, he showed the students the technique how to play it and told stories through the use of the Digeridoo. It was a very engaging and exciting incursion for all.
This term students are beginning their Inquiry units on ‘Ancient Egypt’ (Grade 1) and ‘Ancient Greece’ (Grade 2). These units will be integrated into our English to create consistency and allow the students to gain a rich and deeper understanding in these chosen topics. It will be a fabulous way to share our knowledge of the world and learn about new and interesting places.
We have a few dates on the calendar for term 2…
May 9 – Mother’s Day stall AND Mother's Day Afternoon (2:45PM-3:20PM)
May 23 – Whole School Athletics Carnival
May 26 – Curriculum Day

The Grade 1 & 2 team.

We wrapped up Term 1 in true celebration style with a vibrant Harmony Day, where our school community came together to recognise and celebrate our amazing cultural diversity. It was a colourful day filled with pride, learning, and unity.
Another highlight was our Easter Bonnet Parade! Students had a fantastic time creating and showing off their creative hats. A big thank you to our middle school students who had so much fun helping their buddy classes design and make some truly wonderful Easter bonnets.
The Year 3 classes were treated to a special visit by a Korean musical group, dressed in traditional costume, sharing their culture and music in an engaging and memorable performance. We also welcomed Scott Darlow, who inspired us all by sharing his Indigenous heritage, stories, and music.
As we dive into Term 2, Grades 3 and 4 have hit the ground running with great energy and focus. We’re looking forward to a term full of exciting learning opportunities—and of course, our swimming program, which is always a splash!

We’ve loved reconnecting with our classmates and younger year level buddies, as well as learning more about indigenous culture and music from Scott Darlow when he visited the school last week. This week, we are also celebrating the strength, uniqueness and pride of autism by wearing our hoodies during ‘Hoodie Up for Autism Day.’
In the classroom, year 5’s have turned their attention to novel studies. In year 5, we are reading War Horse and learning all about World War I and the animals that supported the troops. In year 6, we are doing an integrated unit combining English and Geography called “Our Connection to Asia.”
In maths, we’ve been focusing on fractions, decimals and percentages with excellent engagement from our students. Coming up we have our mid-year assessments which Mr Munday, Miss A and Miss Ebbott will use to help support report writing.
In other news, we are so excited about our new Interschool Sports starting in week 3 and Camp in week 6! There will be a camp information session held on Tuesday 6th May.
