Principal's Message

Principal’s Report

We have had a wonderful start to the 2026 school year. It has been fantastic to see students settling into their new classrooms, forming connections with their teachers and classmates, and embracing our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Relationships.

Classrooms across the school have established calm, predictable routines that support learning from the very first day. When students know what to expect and feel safe and supported, they are able to focus, engage and achieve their best. I have been incredibly impressed with how positively students have returned and how confidently they are engaging in their learning.

It was also a pleasure to see so many families attending our recent Parent–Teacher Interviews. These meetings are an important part of our home–school partnership and ensure we are working together to support every child’s progress.

Our Prep BBQ was another highlight — a wonderful opportunity to welcome our newest families into the Chelsea Primary School community. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped create such a welcoming atmosphere for our 2026 Prep cohort.

Curriculum Day – Friday 6 March

A reminder that Friday 6 March is a student-free Curriculum Day.

All Curriculum Days in 2026 are directly aligned to our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) priorities. As outlined in our 2026 AIP, our key focus areas are improving student learning outcomes in Literacy and Numeracy through strengthening our whole-school instructional model and ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.

On this Curriculum Day, staff will be working on:

  • Strengthening the quality and consistency of our Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) model in Reading, Writing, Spelling and Mathematics
  • Using formative and summative data to inform targeted instruction and intervention
  • Building teacher capability through coaching, peer observation and feedback cycles

Our Education Support staff will engage in professional learning focused on phonics instruction and strengthening support for students with additional learning needs, ensuring Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports are clear, structured and evidence-based.

These professional learning days are critical in ensuring that our classrooms remain consistent, structured and responsive — providing every student with the best possible conditions for success.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we build on what has been a very positive and settled start to the year.

Kind regards,
Taylor
