TOP FUNDRAISER
Congratulations to Pennie who was our top fundraiser for our School Fun Run.  Pennie raised a massive $870 and contributed to prep I’s class winning total.
Again we thank everyone at CPS for their incredible support of this spectacular fundraising event!

PEER MEDIATORS
Thank you to our Peer Mediators (ably led by Tommy), who have worked
with students in the playground at recess and lunch times to support and
assist students playing and interacting at recess and lunchtimes. This highly
successful program really has an impact on building positive interactions,
problem solving and resilience. Looking forward to another great term
where our value of Responsibility will be highlighted.

SWIMMING
Our Prep-4 swimming program wrapped up yesterday. Over the 8 day program, students developed their water confidence, safety and stroke and kicking techniques…..and had lots of fun! Thank you to Miss McDonald for her great organisation and to our families for t   heir flexibility over the last few weeks.

NEW PLAYGROUND UPDATE
Fingers crossed our fabulous new playground will be early next term. Delays on equipment supply and landscaping updates have slowed things down a little, but fingers crossed it won’t be long!

BIKE RIDING AND ROAD SAFETY

Our Ride2School ambassadors would like to announce that we now have new stikers on the footpath in Argyle avenue and Fowler street. We ask that students and community members dismount and walk their bikes and scooters.
We also ask that families using the Kiss and Go Zone do not park their cars and leave as this interferes with our traffic flow.
Parent/carers with disabled stickers are permitted to park in the disabled zone.
The Kingston council are continuing to monitor these areas.

RAIL WORKS
The current rail works will impact streets around the school and surrounds. While Argyle Avenue will be closed, local access will be maintained and access is available via Fowler.

Well we have made it!
Thank you to our community for your incredible support his term!
We can be very proud of the challenges our students, teachers and parents have embraced. None of us could have anticipated the new challenges that arose once again.
From transitioning to remote and flexible learning and then returning to on-site schooling, our community has demonstrated remarkable resilience and much appreciated support.
The systems we have introduced will continue to be in place, including good hygiene practice, physical distancing, and asking ill students to remain at home.
We wish everyone a fabulous break. …….you deserved it!
Can’t wait to see what exciting things Term three holds for us!
See you just before 8.50 am on Monday 12th July.

What’s Been Happening?

Another term finished, and another lockdown. But that didn’t stop the preppies from continuing to grow and develop their intelligent minds.

Swimming was a hoot. Learning this skill is vital for all student so we are extremely lucky to participate in this. The students all had a great time and we are so appreciative for all the parent helpers we had.

In mathematics we have been having a lot of fun in the classroom focussing on addition, numbers before and after and collecting data. The students created a wonderful teddy bear graph and learnt how to play sink my colour ship.

In Phonics we have been focussing on blends, how to identify them in words and how to utilise them in a sentence. In reading we have been focussing on identifying the beginning, middle and end of the story alongside recognising the character and settings within the story. In writing we have been focussing on letter formation on dotted thirds, and classifying foods into always and sometimes foods.

In inquiry we have been focussing on different families. We have recognised that each family is different and have members that come from different places. We have also been focussing on recognising our personal strengths and how we can build up and promote our peers’ strengths.

What’s coming up?

100 Days of prep!!
On the 30th of July it will be the official 100 days of prep. We have some great things planned and will keep you in the loop early term 3.

We hope you all have a lovely and safe school holidays. Enjoy some family time and hopefully it isn’t too cold.

Middle School News

Term 2 saw our Year 3 students complete NAPLAN, and both our Year 3 and 4 students tackled a couple of weeks of remote learning.  Add to the mix our swimming program, Athletics carnival, and our regular curriculum - let's just say our middle school students have been busy, and we couldn't be any prouder of how all the students handled themselves throughout the term!  They have taken everything in their stride and persisted regardless.  Families are to be commended too for the amount of support during the lockdown periods.  Thankfully we were allowed to resume our swimming program in the last couple of weeks of term which the students were excited about.

Literacy lessons have seen students continue to improve their spelling knowledge through our Spelling Mastery program, which continued throughout remote learning.  Students have also developed their skills in writing persuasive and narrative text types as the term progressed.  In mathematics, students have been learning and practicing some more difficult concepts of multiplication and division as we move through the curriculum.

To finish off the term, students completed work on their Integrated mini-project, which involved researching an Explorer of their choice, and presenting their information to the entire class using a PowerPoint slideshow.  This project is fantastic not only because it enlightened students of valuable historical information, but it also increases their digital fluency in a creative capacity as they create slideshows that are both informative and entertaining.

Well done Year 3's and 4's, you're all doing amazingly!

Senior School News

This week was full of exciting things to do and these were only some of the things we did.
The first thing everyone would remember from this week would be the Lightning Premiership, where all the schools from this district would come together to participate in their chosen interschool sports. There was T-ball, Soccer, AFL and Netball. It was a huge success so everyone enjoyed themselves there.
Another thing we have done this week was rewriting the endings to famous fairy tales. There was a big variety to chose from like The Hare and The Tortoise, Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs and more. It was a great chance to be creative and when we were all finished we got to read the stories to the grade 1s.
Overall the week was great and I am sure that next semester will be even better.

Senior School 100 Word Writing Challenge - Winners 10th June

We had an awesome picture to use for our prompt this week. The title of each piece needed to be 'The Split'. The beginning of the story was the text below:

'The Split'

She had been standing there for hours, surrounded by ice. As the sun peeped its head over the distant mountains on the horizon, an orange and yellow hue filled the sky. The warmth of the sun was a gesture of kindness to her frozen hands, which she clasped together in front of her trembling body. It was then that she heard it… Crack! It was as if the world in front of her was breaking in two...

Well done to these amazing winners:

She plunged into the icy water below. She pounded with her fist against the ice encasing her in the water. She didn't have any more. She sunk into the water below. When she woke she was lying on a mossy rock, but she could breath, she rose up and looked around. She was in a cave with Stalactites and stalagmites with a huge roof looming over them, she started walking around looking for an exit but she found none. Sorrow filled me. She would never see daylight again. She curled up in a tight ball and fell into a deep sleep.

George – 5P

The icy ground shifted beneath her and sent her plunging down into a world of darkness. When Nera opened her eyes; for they had been tightly closed during the fall, the sight amazed her. She had fallen down an ice shaft and then been deposited in a huge cave. The cave’s walls shimmered like a thousand diamonds. As soon as she had stood up and brushed the snow of her legs, she heard a familiar sound...a cracking sound. A long series of cracks started to appear on the roof of the cave. The walls shook, then the roof collapsed.

Eve – 5P

The loud cracking of the ice was deafening as the split in the ground went onwards towards the rising sun. She takes a few steps backwards nearly slipping into a crack. She was breathing so heavily you could hear it from a mile away. Carefully she runs back towards the shore, when she thought she was out of danger she looks across her shoulder at the huge crack in the ground but she wasn't out of danger yet. The crack had carried on to the land and tearing down buildings in its path. There was nothing that could stop this.

Olivia – 6L

The fissure grew wider and wider and she found herself on unsteady ground. The vibrations made her feet tingle and fear grabbed hold of her before she realised what was really happening. The brief moment of contentment quickly disappeared and she forgot all about the warm sun. Now she was in a real pickle. The lake was beginning to break up all around her and she was only half way across! A quick calculation and she knew she couldn’t turn back. So, she ran for her life. The panic was etched into her features and she felt she might die. Just a few more strides...

Patti – 5W

The Valraka's Fangs

This was not supposed to happen until Maynla, the Istranic festival of Ice! She shivered, knowing of the fate that would come to her tiny kingdom. Days in the snow without food, water or rest was supposed to stop that. But it was too late. The Valraka were swarming and lunged at her. Just then, she realized that this would be the moment she would fall. Her kingdom would die. Everything was lost. Just as its fangs started to seep into her shoulder, she saw blinding green beams come from behind her. As she slowly fell, she saw the blinding sword of the Delkari. Her Kingdom would live!

Elodie – 5W

She was terrified at the cracking ice surrounding her. Rumbling sounds were in the distance and she started making her way out of there to find somewhere warm and safe. As the ground was splitting apart around her feet she was running over the cracks as fast as she could. She saw some bright light ahead of her and said "could this be home?". She was scared that no matter what she did the ground could break and she could be underwater in minutes. She took a big breath in and started running faster towards the big bright light ahead.

Cooper – 5W
