NEW PLAYGROUND

And the beautification continues! On Monday afternoon we watched with great enthusiasm as the finishing touches were put on the turf extension of the front playground. Four square courts, hop scotch and vast areas of turf to just sit and ‘chill’ has really completed the look of our school. While you are out walking, stroll past and have a look…….

COFFEE FAIRY THANK YOU!

A lovely surprise morning tea was delivered on Monday to our on-site staff, compliments of the ‘Coffee Fairy.’ (AKA our beautiful parent Laura Cameron!)
The Coffee Fairy has been helping people since 2015. In that time, they have established themselves as the only random act of kindness group gifting yummy heart-warming coffees to people who need a hug in hospitals and front line workers.
Alice Rebel’s Café -shop 5/450 Nepean Highway Chelsea, were enlisted to supply a range of steamy coffees, hot chocolates, tea and delicious treats to our teachers on behalf of The Coffee Fairy.
Please visit The Coffee Fairy- https://thecoffeefairy.org/ to see how you can learn more about their passion, how you can get involved and ‘pay it forward’.
The Coffee Fairy…… changing the world with smiles... one coffee at a time!

REMOTE LEARNING
Thank you to all families for your support during this time. We are really missing the students at school and are hopeful that this will end as soon as possible. At this stage, we have no news regarding when the lockdown will end but assume it will be until the end of term. We have also had a number of inquiries about children having to wear masks at school and the latest advice is, that they are recommended, but not mandatory.
We will continue to update any changes as information unfolds.
As always, please contact us if there is anything at all that we can do to support you.
Take care.

News from the Principal and Assistant Principal continue

Although it’s a very different celebration again this year, we wish all our dads, grandpas, uncles and special friends a very special Father’s Day and hope you enjoy some special time with your family.

CLASSES IN

Although we are still in Term Three, we are now starting to plan for the 2022 school year. We are close to finalising our Prep enrolment for 2022. Another important piece of information we need when planning for a new school year is how many students we will have across the rest of the school. This information is essential when we are planning the number of classes at each level and support and specialist programs, etc.
If you know that your child will not be at Chelsea Primary School in 2022, please let the office know if writing as soon as possible.

FLAG DISPLAY

This week we created or flag display in the school foyer.
We now have our Australian National Flag,
Australian Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag.
This demonstrate our pride and respect for the histories,
cultures and contributions of Australia’s First Peoples and promotes a sense of community partnership and a commitment toward reconciliation.
Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Tilley for organising the stand and flagpoles and to Leo for setting it all up.

AND FINALLY ‘CHELSEAS GOT TALENT.’

What a talented group of performers were showcased on our Zoom meeting-Chelsea’s Got Talent on Wednesday afternoon. Mr Rundell produced a great event, presenting magic tricks, card games, guitar and piano playing, dancing, Rubik’s cube tricks and even a marshmallow eating competition!
Congratulations to- Levi, Braxtin, Cara, Zoe and Olivia, Eva, Jacob, Jamie, Luca, Liam, Norah and Eve, Kaiyah, Tiana, George, Tegan and Lily!
Thank you for sharing your talents.

COVID vaccine eligibility

Dear parents/guardians and carers,

As part of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, all Victorian school students aged 16 years and above are now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The Victorian Government aims to vaccinate all final year students by the time they sit their end-of-year exams. Final year students are therefore urged to immediately make an appointment to receive a vaccine by following the instructions under the heading ‘How to book an appointment’ below.
The state vaccination centres have recently had their capacity increased to support Victoria’s drive to administer 1 million doses of the vaccine by 19 September.

We have written to your child to provide them with information about their eligibility for getting a vaccination. Students will be supported in every way possible to be vaccinated before the examinations begin.

Students completing their final year are particularly asked to book an appointment as soon as possible to support the safe conduct of examinations. As their parent/guardian, I encourage you to help them to book and if needed, support them to attend their appointment.

Final year students are asked to consider getting their first vaccine before the GAT on 5 October. In addition, it’s recommended not to get the vaccine on the day of an exam, or the day before an exam - to avoid feeling common but mild side effects such as tiredness, headache, muscle pain, fever and chills and/or joint pain during your exam.

Consent

Students can book their own appointment and consent to vaccination themselves if the health professional assesses them to be a mature minor.

How to book an appointment

To book an appointment, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au  or contact the Coronavirus hotline by phoning 1800 675 398.
To find a vaccination centre and opening times, visit  coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
From 30 August, people aged 16-39 can get their COVID-19 vaccine at a doctor’s clinic, pharmacy or community health service through the Australian Government Eligibility Checker. You can book your appointment online or by calling the vaccine provider nearest to you.

More information

Translated advice about the vaccines is available on the coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
For more information about eligibility, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au or use the Australian Government’s COVID-19 vaccine eligibility checker.

Foundation News

Preps have been online and contributing to the collective achievements made throughout remote learning. Through the exploration of different cuisines, cultures and our personal families, we have cooked, built, become resourceful and have made connections to the world around us.

Book Week was incredible and a great show was put on from all the students at home. Well done to the families and students that committed to the cause and showcased their skills with paper machete. Thank you for the ongoing support and joining our live Google Book Meet also.

Moving Forward:

The Prep Team are committed to keep you all engaged with good humour, academic challenges and social/ emotional support. We are so deeply proud of all that you are accomplishing. Whether that be; training for the Olympics in the backyard, becoming a junior MasterChef or designing the next best thing for Lego Masters, we love observing all that you do.

Be yourselves and stay strong,

Matthew, Justine and Bianca.

Middle School News

Over the past few weeks the 3/4 students have enjoyed some fabulous reading material.  Using several of the comprehension strategies we have focused on this year, students have provided written and oral responses to these books and demonstrated their understanding of the stories.

This week we have used these four beautiful books from Jackie French to explore Figurative Language.  Students identified both Similes and Metaphors from these texts and were able to explain the literal meaning inferred by them.

We commenced Angles and Shapes in Week 7 and students are learning all about the properties of 2D, 3D Shapes and Angles.  We have also explored Symmetry and Tessellations and hopefully the students will produce some impressive artwork.

These are a few of the examples of symmetry art they were shown and we can’t wait to showcase their masterpieces in our classrooms once we’re back at school.

Senior School News

The senior school students have been excelling and persevering with remote learning and their positive and enthusiastic attitudes are to be applauded. Students have been creating fabulous Father’s and Special Person’s Day poems, becoming mathematicians by solving algebraic equations and creating Flipgrid videos on the concept of being positive. We also saw some fabulous Book Week costumes in grade 5 and 6, which brought a lot of joy and excitement to the whole school.

All grade 5 and 6 classes competed in The Happiness Movement. Every student was given a table of tasks showing acts of Mindfulness, Resilience, Gratitude or Kindness. Some of these tasks required students to create a gratitude jar, call a friend or family member and attend a mindfulness session. Fantastic work to 6L who won The Happiness Movement Challenge.

In literacy we have been developing our poetry writing skills. Students have been investigating figurative language types such as metaphors, similes, idioms and hyperboles, through explicit lessons. Our grade 5 and 6 students have now created very heartfelt and humorous Father’s and Special Person’s Day poems using metaphors. We can not wait for our students to share them with their family!

In numeracy we have exploring number patterns and algebra. Students attend a live Google Meet Maths lesson every day at 11:30. Students have been using their knowledge on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to work out the missing number!

Our inquiry this term has been a combination of both Science and Well-being. This Monday students created short instructional videos to inform people to think positively during lock-down. The grade 5 and 6 teachers were extremely impressed with the videos students created and definitely think we have some future inspirational talkers in the making!
