Foundation News

We cannot believe that it is now week 6 of Term 4! The kids are so happy to be back onsite full time – as are the teachers! We are excited that we will be having an incursion from Wildlife Xposure presenting their Native animal incursion next week, on Tuesday 16th November. The topic is Jaws, Claws, Feathers and Scales. The preps will touch and hold hand reared gliding possums or pat a tame dingo. They will interact with parrots, lizards, frogs & turtles and confront non-venomous pythons and marvel at salt and fresh water crocodiles! All in the safety of our multipurpose room! It’s good to be back!!!

Love, the prep teachers

Junior School News

We continue to enjoy the transition back to onsite learning for everyone. We have made the most of any sunny days to eat outside and having a great time hanging out with our friends.

This week we have used the text My Farm by Alison Lester to develop our understandings of how people live in different parts of Australia and the world. Each week we focus on new vocabulary in our focus text and continue to develop our knowledge of compound and complex sentences.

In Year 1 Numeracy we are adding 2 digit numbers and subtracting numbers to 20. In Year 2 we have explored mass and comparing the mass of classroom items using balance scales. We are also looking at number patterns, starting at different starting points by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 10s and identifying missing numbers.

We have also commenced our end of year assessments across the curriculum and are very pleased with the results so far which shows how hard many children applied themselves during online learning.

This term is chock a block full of exciting activities and special days. Our excursion to The Big Goose is coming up next week so don’t forget to send your permission form back asap. In Week 8 Year 2s have their Camp Preparation Day after school on the Thursday. This week we also have our Remembrance Day assembly and Kindness Day on Friday. So much to look forward to!

All the best,

Chris Hulse, Wendy Stansfield and Maddie Culshaw

Middle School News

What lockdown????  We’re back into the swing of things now……..

We missed out on our Specialist Program last week because of Cup Day, but this week really feels like school has resumed properly.  Our students have enjoyed the full complement of specialist classes and our timetable is now re-established.

Most of our Literacy and Maths work over the past two weeks has been revision and getting our students back into a learning mindset.  We have continued on with our novel, ‘Somewhere around the Corner’ and students have been able to draw parallels between life in Australia during the Great Depression and our current situation with the pandemic.  They have learnt that being in lockdown, at home with all our comforts and devices, can’t be compared to the hardships experienced by people back in 1934.

This week and next will see the students undertake most of their end of year assessments.  Much of our testing is online and it is often difficult to juggle a schedule so that each class gets equitable time.  Therefore it is really important that your child is at school on time as we try to timetable the tests for first thing in the morning.

Senior School News

After spending months upon months at home staring at devices we make a great return back to Chelsea primary school.

After almost half a year in lockdown all the students return back to their classrooms happy to be learning face to face yet again. In the first week back, senior students did many fun activities such as a fish ‘n’ chips lunch and lots of outdoor games.

The grade 6 students have started making some items for their graduation like our memory books. It is everyone’s favourite activity to do in the afternoon. We also had a professional videographer come in and film us for our graduation video. The Year 6 students have also started to sell Icy-poles on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We are also planning some exciting activities for the junior classes for our kindness day.

The grade 5 students have chosen their grade 6 polo design for next year and are going to start looking at leadership positions soon.

Art Room News

The Foundation students were so excited to be back in the art room and finish their Henri Rousseau inspired tigers! Keep a look out for their colourful tigers around the school!

The Junior students enjoyed painting out in the sun and creating their own street art in front of the art room.

The Middle school students are looking forward to finally starting their clay unit!

The Year Five students have started work on their special Tim Burton themed project. And the Year Six students have started their Graduation Bag designs!

Don’t forget Art Club is officially back on! Every Tuesday 1st half of lunch until the end of term!

Best wishes,

Miss Hands

COVID vaccine eligibility

Dear parents/guardians and carers,

As part of the COVID-19 vaccination roll-out, all Victorian school students aged 16 years and above are now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The Victorian Government aims to vaccinate all final year students by the time they sit their end-of-year exams. Final year students are therefore urged to immediately make an appointment to receive a vaccine by following the instructions under the heading ‘How to book an appointment’ below.
The state vaccination centres have recently had their capacity increased to support Victoria’s drive to administer 1 million doses of the vaccine by 19 September.

We have written to your child to provide them with information about their eligibility for getting a vaccination. Students will be supported in every way possible to be vaccinated before the examinations begin.

Students completing their final year are particularly asked to book an appointment as soon as possible to support the safe conduct of examinations. As their parent/guardian, I encourage you to help them to book and if needed, support them to attend their appointment.

Final year students are asked to consider getting their first vaccine before the GAT on 5 October. In addition, it’s recommended not to get the vaccine on the day of an exam, or the day before an exam - to avoid feeling common but mild side effects such as tiredness, headache, muscle pain, fever and chills and/or joint pain during your exam.

Consent

Students can book their own appointment and consent to vaccination themselves if the health professional assesses them to be a mature minor.

How to book an appointment

To book an appointment, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au  or contact the Coronavirus hotline by phoning 1800 675 398.
To find a vaccination centre and opening times, visit  coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
From 30 August, people aged 16-39 can get their COVID-19 vaccine at a doctor’s clinic, pharmacy or community health service through the Australian Government Eligibility Checker. You can book your appointment online or by calling the vaccine provider nearest to you.

More information

Translated advice about the vaccines is available on the coronavirus.vic.gov.au.
For more information about eligibility, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au or use the Australian Government’s COVID-19 vaccine eligibility checker.
