With 2 short weeks left of term, the preps are pumped! Step-up days, excursions and preparation for Christmas Carols have our preps in high spirits. Each day we draw closer to Christmas and the festive season. As we brace ourselves for the holidays, many school activities are based on these events. Students are talking about long days at the beach, camping trips and precious time spent with their families – a time we long to enjoy.
This week, the preps formally met their Year 1 teacher and their official grade next year. It is an anxious and exciting time for many preps and their families. Thankfully, the Year 1 class sizes are very small which will reduce student stress and further support student growth and engagement.
It is hard to believe an entire year has passed – but it has. Within that year, new friends have been formed, academic milestones reached and growth spurts continue to occur. Foundation truly is a transformative year.
The recording of Christmas Carols will be released shortly, so kick back, relax and begin to enjoy this jolly time of year.
Warm regards,
Justine, Bianca and Matthew
What a fantastic couple of weeks we have had!
On the 25th of November we had the Year 2 camp prep night where the Year 2’s stayed after school to play games, set their dinner tables, eat a delicious meal and then watch a movie! It was great fun and everyone had a fantastic night- thank you to everyone who helped out.
We have also had two successful days of transition and on the 7th of December everyone met their new class and new teacher. We completed some ‘get to know you’ activities where the students learnt more about their new classmates as well as their new teacher.
In literacy we have been exploring books written by Indigenous authors and we’ve had a focus on Australia- last week we read Welcome to Country by Joy Murphy Wandin and this week we have been reading Why I Love Australia by Bronwyn Bancroft.
In numeracy we are continuing to have engaging maths lessons where we have been reviewing topics that we have covered earlier in the year.
We have lifesaving next week on the 14th of December from 11:30am - 1pm. The last day of school is Friday the 17th where we will have an early finish of 1:30pm.
We can’t believe how quick the end of the year has come- we are so impressed and so proud of how well the junior team has done this year- it certainly has not been the year that most were expecting but the junior team have smashed it and they are all very deserving of a break! Enjoy the last few days of school and we all hope you have happy and safe holidays.
Lots of love the Junior team-

The circus came to town on Thursday.
The 3/4 kids had a busy day with a visiting circus workshop. The day started with a performance by the visiting crew, which included a fancy display of juggling, acrobatic balancing, plate spinning and hula hoop demonstrations.
Next it was the kids turn to get involved. They made their own juggling balls, using a freezer bag, sand and balloons. After some basic instructions, the air was filled with colour as juggling balls came to life.
After recess, the circus skills ramped up. Acrobatic balancing was introductory and horizontal, despite the pleas of some kids to build human towers. The children were schooled in the importance of a weight bearing posture… shoulders through the arms, and hips through the legs. Trick sticks were popular with lots of spinning and tossing and spinning. The Hula hoops were a favourite among the students, and the perfect opportunity for them to show the teachers how it’s done. The final activity was to make and decorate a hula hoop of their own. A great day was had by all.
SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS by Keira, Media Leader
Hello community of Chelsea!
We have enjoyed many exciting activities since we last shared news with you.
Last week, we all took buses to the Maru Koala & Animal Park just outside of Phillip Island. Once there, we played mini golf and got introduced to animals like snakes, koalas and dingos while learning a bunch of interesting fun facts along the way. The highlight for many of us was hand feeding and patting kangaroos. They were adorable!
Mr Pipella took the 2022 I Sea, I Care Ambassadors to Sorrento for a morning of dolphin watching and seal swimming. It was an once-in-a-lifetime experience for these student and Mr Pipella was extremely proud of his crew.
Earlier this week, we were fortunate enough to go sailing at Chelsea Yacht Club. It was an unbelievable experience sailing our own yachts, stand up paddle boarding and being driven on the speed boat. Everyone participated and the Yacht Club said we were the best bunch of students they’d had.
In the classroom, Grade 6’s have been working on their Memory Books for graduation while Grade 5’s have been making dioramas of natural disasters. We have also made welcome books and decorated them for the new Preps and their families so they can have a warm welcome to Chelsea Primary School.
Next week, we are looking forward to Life Saving, Graduation, Big Day Out and the final 2022 Assembly.
Thank you Mr Pipella, Mrs Whiteside, Miss Lawrence and Miss Ebbott for making this last term truly awesome!
On Friday 29 October we had a prompt about Earthquakes, as it was something we had all experienced not long before. Well done to these two winners:
After crossing the border, we tried to find hope in a new world. We find a hospital and a house block. Same as many buildings around us. As we get more to the edge, we find a 60m wall halting us from exiting or entering without using the border. We hear a loud rumble… “BANG”, “CRASH” Havoc is caused wherever we looked. Everywhere was doom. Cars were beeping, buildings are falling and crumbling into pieces. Until, everything stopped… we check 7 news, “Breaking news, an unexpected nuclear explosion has been put in the ocean near Melbourne. It has held a radiation. We ask you, DO NOT TOUCH.”

What exactly happened? I’m Aimi Sfarlea you’re Breaking News Reporter and today, something truly astonishing happened. You may have heard of this from a friend neighbour or family member. Or you might of even felt it yourself like a lot of people. A couple weeks ago Nasa announced that a giant asteroid luckily missed earth. But we weren’t so lucky today as a slightly smaller version came out of nowhere and hit Melbourne right in the core, this made level 3 earthquakes almost everywhere in the area. Make sure to stay alarmed for after-quakes. This is Aimi Sfarlea signing off.

On Friday 11 November we had a prompt to include these words in our writing as well as a story starter:- Microphone
- Elephant
- Parachute
- Teacher
Well done to these winners:
Once there was a scientist that created this evil potion which made people turn into zombies and nobody can stop this evil virus. One time a teacher turned into an elephant after drinking the same potion, but this time it worked wrong. One day a crossing lady snuck into the scientist’s room because the scientist told her deliberately that if she drinks the potion in his lab she’ll become a billionaire and instead of an elephant she turned into a zombie that loves to eat microphones. Everybody started to turn into zombies one by one. It started to get dark when all of a sudden, a guy in a parachute came down with a torch and showed it to all of the zombies and all the zombies started to melt and the people came back to life.

The unexpected elephant.
I vigilantly marched through the office and could see no one, but could hear people shouting in shock and fear. I continued walking along the corridor and saw a teacher running away in the opposite direction of me. I then started hearing loud huge footsteps approaching. I turned to my right and saw a massive elephant, I rubbed my eyes but the elephant was still there. The principal then spoke through the microphone to tell everybody in the building that there is a giant elephant on the loose. I run outside and see people parachuting to catch the giant creature. In the end, I got to go home. Yay!

We have been asked by the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Health to provide this statement to all families/carers.
If your child is identified as an education contact of someone who is a confirmed case of COVID-19, you must ensure your child quarantines until they have completed a PCR test and returned a negative result. A PCR test is the test you have at the main testing sites or local doctors. The PCR test result is usually available within 24 hours and the result will be texted back to your phone.
You must show evidence of the negative result to the school before your child can return to onsite learning.
Schools are not permitted to allow your child to return until you have shown evidence of a negative test.
If you are not able to show evidence of a negative test, your child cannot attend school for the following length of time depending on their circumstances:
7 days if they are fully vaccinated
Rapid antigen tests are provided free at all PCR testing centres for school students who are education contacts. If your child is an education contact they will receive a pack of five rapid antigen tests. Instructions are provided and there is also information available about rapid antigen tests at coronavirus.vic.gov.au
Rapid antigen tests should be completed on school days in the morning (one each day) before attending school for the week after receiving a negative PCR test result.
Using rapid antigen tests in the week after a school exposure is very important to keep our school community safe from COVID-19.
