FAIRIES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GARDEN.
What a wonderful surprise greeted us on our return on Monday! Some very busy fairies have worked tirelessly over the holidays to clean up our Kitchen Garden area, ready for planting new ‘crops.’
Thank you so much to our wonderful parents Youn-shi, Kirran and Cathy and green fingered students Julien, Camille, Naomi, Elodie and Harvey. A super kinder family also helped out. We look forward to running our new lunchtime gardening club and re-establishing this much-loved area again.
New resources are now available to our school that will help us educate and support students with diverse learning needs. All Victorian Government schools will benefit from new resources, information, guidance and support available under new initiatives and resources released recently, including:
The Autism Education Strategy will improve learning and wellbeing outcomes for autistic students. It will build inclusive school communities that welcome and value autistic students and their families.
The strategy was launched in December 2020 and is part of Disability Inclusion, the Victorian Government’s approach to inclusive education.
More information for schools and families on the strategy has just been released to show how its initiatives and programs will be delivered in schools.

Bouncing off the back-end of School Holidays, the Prep team is thrilled to have our students’ in their natural learning habitats again! Currently, our students’ are carrying and have expressed a mixture of feelings; ranging from nervousness, excitement and pure joy. Our team is placing social and emotional wellbeing at the forefront of the agenda. Our priority is to re-establish the positive working environment and to achieve this, we require growth mindsets. To move forward, we need to work together. We are warmly parent helpers back into the classroom also. Please see your teacher to get involved.
Mother’s Day and Special Friends Breakfast is on Friday the 6th of May under the Gazebo between 7:15 – 8:45am. Please come and celebrate with us. More details can be found on our school Facebook page or School DOJO.
Although it's a nine week term, it is a busy time for the middle school. It is a report term for all and the year 3 students will participate in the nationwide NAPLAN assessment, beginning May 10th.
For literacy, similar to term one, we will continue to have our weekly/bi-weekly mentor texts that are the centre of our learning. In particular, there will be a strong focus on narrative planning and writing. Through utilising the science of reading and writing revolution research, we are continuing to encourage students to produce quality over quantity.
Numeracy will have a focus on multiplication and division, and learning the different mental and written strategies available to us when completing such equations. The concept of time will also be explored throughout this term. Along with this, every Friday, similar to term one, we will continue our problem solving/games math session. This sees us planning mathematical games or problems that allow students to apply the skills they have learnt throughout the week in a more casual working environment.
Thus far in our integrated studies, we have had a look at rules and laws. This term we are exploring history and indigenous culture which will also provide a platform to explore aboriginal texts and stories as part of our ‘mentor texts’ in our literacy program.
Coming up at the beginning of May, we have a bullying incursion which will see an outsourced company come into the school and talk about bullying and the effects it has on individuals. The purpose of this is to ensure that there are shared actions and language across the school in relation to bullying.
The children have settled straight back into the routine of school with awesome positive attitudes.
It’s been a busy start to Term 2 in the Senior School with an excursion already been and gone.
On Wednesday morning, Grade 5’s and 6’s caught the train from Chelsea to Southern Cross station and made their way to THE LUME to experience a vibrant multisensory experience of Vincent Van Gogh’s epic art. Students and teachers alike, were wowed as the two-storey walls came alive with Van Gogh’s work and thrilling music pulsated the senses! There were also opportunities to
Draw like Van Gogh and immerse oneself in a space covered wall-to-wall in sunflowers. Students can expect some exciting activities to follow in Mrs Middleton’s art room over the coming weeks.
A HUGE thank you to Mrs Middleton for organising this special day and to our amazing helpers, Ms Dwyer, Karina and John Kelly!
Back in our classrooms, we have started our first Novel Study for the year: Holes, by Louis Sachar. The 8 week study will conclude with a viewing of the film and fish & chips!
In Maths, Decimals and Percentages are underway and for Inquiry our focus is History. Next week, students and their families will be given a homework project aligned to our Inquiry topic, so stay tuned!
On the Wellbeing front, classes are resetting after the holidays by looking back over our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Matrix (SWPBS), Zones of Regulation and our school values. Plus, we will continue to focus on being bucket fillers!
Here’s to a wonderful Term 2.
During our first full term in 2 years in the Performing Arts, we were able to show so much talent and opportunities for everyone to shine.
We managed to develop two bands in the senior school and have our first live performances in front of the school and community. We had students reading music and playing the xylophones and djembes from melodies they crafted. Our Grade 6s had a blast presenting their audio commentaries to each other and Grade 5s presenting a performance about the 4Rs. There was so much fun, and creativity being displayed in the classroom, and I could not be prouder of the work our students have put into it.
This Term will be no different with still creating live performances and building their confidence. Keep an ear out as more upcoming projects are revealed, as there is a lot being worked behind the curtains.
Stay funky everyone,
Mr Lachlan Rundell – Performing Arts Teacher
