to 2023!
It has been wonderful catching up with students over the last few days and hearing about all their holiday fun! Our new Prep students have begun with great smiles and enthusiasm and are already showing us that they are more than ready for school.
We warmly welcome our new families to our fantastic Chelsea community and hope your time with us will be positive and memorable.
A BAG OF GOODIES FOR EACH PREP STUDENT
Each Prep student attending a Victorian government school will receive a Prep bag to celebrate this milestone in their education journey.
The bags are filled with engaging learning items and information for parents and carers to help families have a great start to the year.
This year’s theme, ‘Moving on up,’ recognises and celebrates the transition from kindergarten to school and encourages Prep students to move more.
STAFFING
This term Mr. Irish is on long service leave. We all wish him a very relaxing term as he settles his daughter into school and enjoys some quality family time.
Mrs. Vicki Middleton and Michelle Tilley are also on leave this term.
We warmly welcome Miss Breanon DiGiovambattista (Miss D) to year 1 and Mr. Nick Munday to year 6. Fantastic additions to our staff.
GETTING LITERACY RIGHT FROM THE START - PREP TESTING IN FEBRUARY
To ensure our preps get the very best start to their learning every student will be assessed using the mandated English Online Interview (EOI). The EOI is a tool for assessing the English skills relating to reading, phonics, speaking and listening.
Teachers will also complete a numeracy screening test.
It’s another data source to support schools in their implementation of Literacy and Numeracy goals.
Prep classroom teachers will assess students over the next few Wednesdays- February 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd.
During these sessions, parents will also have the opportunity to share any additional information with their child’s teacher. If you have any questions about booking a time or would like further information about the assessments, please do not hesitate to see your child’s teacher.
This year our year one students will also complete the English on line interview during the first few weeks of term.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLY
Our whole school assemblies are held every Monday morning at 9.10am (weather permitting). We welcome all our families along to enjoy student presentations, awards, music and upcoming events.
STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE
The Department of Education (DET) does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Parents and guardians are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including any transport costs. These costs may be recoverable where an injury is caused by the negligence (carelessness) of the Department, a school council or their employees or volunteers.
Student accident insurance policies are available from some commercial insurers. These cover a range of medical expenses not covered by Medicare or private health insurance. The Department cannot advise parents/guardians on whether to purchase a student accident policy or which policy to purchase. It is recommended that they seek assistance in this matter with their insurance broker or find a suitable personal accident insurer online.
PRIVATE PROPERTY AT SCHOOL
The start of the school year is a timely opportunity to remind families that private property brought to school by staff or students is not insured and that the Department of Education does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage. Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff, and visitors. It can include items such as mobile phones, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.
UNIFORM
We are always very proud of how smart our students look in our Chelsea Primary School Uniform.
Our uniform Policy is regularly reviewed by our School Council Education Committee. Her are our expectations for our Summer Uniform.
Summer Uniform-school checked dress, shorts/skort, school polo, SunSmart
hat, school bomber jacket/windcheater
Reminder-no jewellery, nail polish, coloured socks, leggings or dyed coloured hair. Hair below shoulders needs to be tied up. (Both boys and girls)
Your support is appreciated.
