What a fabulous start to the term. Our biggest fundraiser for the year, our annual Colour Fun Run, was a huge success. We took on board your feedback and in doing so, we planned and resourced the entire event. This meant that every dollar we made we kept. We raised an amazing $20, 647! This is an incredible amount from our little school with the big heart.
It was amazing to see individual and class efforts also. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this fundraiser by donating. Well done to our highest fundraising students:
Our highest fundraising class was 1E who raised an amazing $3246.22. They will have a FUN DAY this Friday which will consist of wearing free dress, a visit from Charlie Sillypants, cupcakes for snack from Mumma Gill’s Cakes, a movie, a hot food lunch from Omega 3 Seafood, and a sports session with our senior sports leaders in the afternoon.
Thank you to all of the businesses and individuals who kindly donated to this event. A huge thank you to our fundraising team, led by Donna, and largely supported by Mel and Younsh for their amazing dedication to planning, organising, and sourcing everything we needed for the day. An event like this would not be possible with someone driving it all. Thank you to all of our volunteers on the day, again an event like this isn’t possible without support.

The past two weeks have been filled with excitement and learning in our Foundation classes! From colorful runs to SLIME, our young learners have been actively engaged in various activities that have brought joy and knowledge to their daily routines.
Colorful Run Success!
Our School Colour Fun Run was an absolute hit! The infectious energy and enthusiasm radiated from all corners of the school as students, teachers, and parents came together for an afternoon filled with laughter, movement, and community spirit. We are so appreciative with a fundraising total of over $20,000. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed!!
A special round of applause goes to our Foundation students who raised a total of $5,514. This is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our youngest members, and we couldn't be prouder.
Slimy Fun with Miss Culshaw!
In the spirit of celebration, we all enjoyed a memorable moment as we watched Miss Culshaw get slimed! The joy on the faces of our students was truly priceless, and we extend our gratitude to Miss Culshaw for being such a good sport. It's moments like these that create lasting memories!!
Academic Highlights:
Math Investigations: In the world of numbers, our Foundation students have been diving into the fascinating realm of money. Exploring its concepts and applications, they are gaining valuable insights into the world of mathematics.
Phonics Adventures: In phonics, our young learners have been investigating the "gentle cindy rule" and discovering the sound that "oo" makes.
Narrative Writing Skills: Our budding authors have been honing their narrative writing skills in recent weeks. From crafting imaginative tales to expressing their thoughts on paper, their creativity is flourishing.
Bring on the last few week!!!
The end of year is approaching and we are so incredibly proud of the progress the students have made their happy smiles and eager attitudes are serving them greatly this year. In mathematics we have been having a lot of fun in the classroom working on developing our understanding of multiplication and division. The students have used a range of manipulatives alongside Prime Maths to work through these concepts and have done a brilliant job. In literacy we have been learning how to write a persuasive text. The students have all done an amazing job using their language to persuade others of their opinion on their favourite animals and other about important issues.
The year ones also had an amazing incursion from Wildlife Xposure! They saw a with a range of native creatures and even got to hold and pat some of them! What a wonderful experience it was to see all their happy faces when each animal came out.

The Year 1 and 2 Team
Our classrooms have been filled with excitement and curiosity this term as our Grade 3/4 students have been busy immersing themselves in the wonders of ancient Rome. From gladiators to emperors, our young historians have explored the fascinating world of Roman civilisation in a captivating core knowledge unit that has brought history to life.
Adding a dash of creativity to their learning, our students have been working hard to improve their persuasive writing skills. Gearing up for the ultimate challenge, students have been busy writing persuasive speeches to defend their stances on various topics in the 'Chelsea Senate,' where they will present their arguments and engage in friendly battles against their peers. May the best ‘senator’ win!
This adventure extends to maths, where students have enjoyed learning about the Roman numeral system. They have also been using multiplicative thinking for a range of purposes, exploring its application in fractions, units of measurement, and time, making meaningful connections that have deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts. And as some maths units come to an end, students are now transitioning to problem-solving, applying the knowledge and skills they’ve gained to real-world scenarios.
And of course, the daily times table quiz continues to be a thrilling tradition, with students relishing the opportunity to showcase their progress throughout the semester. Seeing the students’ growing confidence and intrinsic motivation in this area has been truly wonderful and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts and achievements!

It’s hard to believe that we’re in the final weeks of our school year. This is such a special time for our Year 6s, full of fun, memory making and lots of mixed emotions too, as this chapter of their lives closes and the new adventures of secondary school await. It’s also an exciting time for our Grade 5s as they prepare to take on school leadership and being the senior students of the school.
As usual, the last month has been busy! The Grade 6s have been busy making their memory books, they also undertook a debating topic, which the students participated in with great passion and commitment.
The Grade 5s have had a taster of high school life, with a visit to Patterson River Secondary College and an upcoming visit to Mordialloc College. These experiences are not only lots of fun, but also a great way for the students to familiarise themselves with the world of secondary school.
The Colour Run was a huge success, we were proud of the way our senior students conducted themselves as leaders of the school and helped make this a memorable event for our school community. We are very happy to say the event raised over $20,000 towards building our new bike shed at CPS!
Once again STOMP has proved to be very popular with the Grade 5s and 6s. It’s been wonderful to see the students enjoying their weekly sessions, busting some pretty cool moves and working up a sweat! We can’t wait to see their final performances, with the Grade 5s at the Christmas concert and the Grade 6s at graduation.
We are looking forward to enjoying the last month of the school year with your children. We hope to finish off the year on a high and create many memories before we move into the holiday season!
A final message to our Year 6s and their families, please don’t be strangers! We would love a visit from time to time and to hear of all your wonderful adventures at secondary school. You have been wonderful school leaders, and we are sure you’ll put your best foot forward and thrive at secondary school. Please keep in touch!
To our families that have their youngest child finished up this year or for those moving elsewhere, thank you for choosing CPS for your family and for your involvement and contributions over the years. We have loved having you as part of our little community, you will forever be part of the Chelsea Primary family!
As always, thanks for all your support!

Prep
Prep students have worked hard this term to learn about printing techniques. Using a range of materials, they have created several different printed pieces of art. After reading the book ‘Owl Babies,’ students used cotton balls to print their own owl babies. Next, they enjoyed sitting outside in the sunshine to observe and print their own unique representations of the beautiful wattle in our playground. Students then looked at different buildings around the world and used paint and oil pastel to create their own cityscape, demonstrating their understandings of line and shape. Finally, all students printed a field of poppies as part of the collaborative Remembrance Day art that you will see on the wall near the office.
Year One
Year One students started the term learning about paper weaving. All students created a paper loom and weaved it to create the body for an owl. After creating beautiful oil pastel and water colour papers, students used these to create torn paper wings for their owl and collaged their whole piece together. The results are fabulous!
The next unit is focussing on sculpture. Students have created a paper mâché snake, worm, eel or caterpillar form and are currently in the process of painting. The students are working so well through this process which requires persistence and patience!
Year Two
Year Two students have been learning about sculpture by creating their own paper mâché creatures. After drawing their plans, students created a paper mâché ball which formed the base of their creature. Over several weeks involving painting, creating features and construction, all students have created some wonderful, unique creatures that are now on display in the art room for all to see!
Year Three and Four
Recently the Year Three and Four students have been exploring collage and weaving. Using this years Book Week nominated book Snap! by Anna Walker as inspiration the students created a collage using a range of different coloured and patterned paper. The students explored colour using different coloured oil pastels, crayons and paint sticks to also make their own collage paper to use in their final collage, along side ready made coloured paper. The students frogs in their habitats looked excellent!
During term four we explored the skill of weaving. The students used water colours to paint two different pages which they later weaved together. We then moved onto using wool and a paper plate to make a loom and weave wool through. Both tasks looked very effective!
Year Five and Six
The Grade Five and Six students have been busy! Firstly using polymer clay to create a Liz Payne inspired abstract clay project. Adding many different textures, colours, lines and shapes. Then using one of this years Book Week nominated books ‘We Are Australian’ as inspiration to draw a portrait and use paint sticks to colour in abstractly. Along with creating weaved bowls, using paper plates.
This term the students have been working hard on firstly designing and then creating their own felt monsters! The students have thoroughly enjoyed learning to sew and being creative in their individual designs. Although we have not finished just yet, they are looking great!
Over the term the grade six students all showed great persistence in making an origami butterfly, to signify their time at primary school. All of the butterflies were put together as an art display which will be displayed in our school.
The whole school created a poppy each which was added to a display for Remembrance Day, it is currently on display in the main building foyer, make sure you check it out!
There is at present an increase in community transmission of COVID-19 in Victoria.
You can help us keep our school as safe as possible by taking 2 important steps:
If your child has symptoms but tests negative, please ensure they stay home until they no longer have symptoms.
If the RAT test result is positive, please ensure they say home for at least 5 days and until there are no more symptoms.
Thank you for your support – these steps will help us all stay well.
