Steve is a school principal (Bentleigh West PS) and system leader with extensive knowledge regarding evidence based practices. He supports schools to design and implement their school improvement agenda and works closely with principals and leadership teams on their core business. In addition, Steve works with teachers to demonstrate best practice in literacy such as; curriculum design; school wide and team planning; and classroom implementation, supporting teams in their professional learning communities and individual teachers at the classroom door. Steve’s school was recognised by executive direction Simon Hamilton for outstanding student achievement in NAPLAN.


Sarah from Bentleigh West Primary school in Victoria has implemented evidence informed practice to initial reading instruction and intervention strategies beyond phonics. Her presentations discuss how the school focuses on the writing system in the junior grades to ensure full mastery of the code to rich literature experience, building of vocabulary and background knowledge to ensure literacy growth beyond the junior years. Theory to practice examples are given with videos of teachers in action along with formative and summative assessment and data to demonstrate the growth in the school.

Taylor is a school principal (Chelsea PS) and previous Assistant Principal at Bentleigh West PS. He has lead Chelsea PS through a transformational change of pedagogical practice, implementing and focuses on Systematic Synthetic Phonics (MSL/OG teacher training) and EDI (Explicit Direct Instruction).

Tristan is a secondary college principal (Westall Secondary College) who has successfully transformed his schools teaching and learning approach. Tristan’s school has seen significant individual student growth over the past few years after implementing Explicit Direct Instruction. Tristan’s school was recognised by executive direction Simon Hamilton for outstanding student achievement in NAPLAN.
