At Chelsea Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
Our approach to behaviour is proactive, consistent and evidence-based, aligned with the Department of Education’s School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework. This means we explicitly teach, model and reinforce positive behaviours across all areas of the school — in classrooms, specialist spaces and playgrounds.
We focus on universal support strategies that benefit all students, not just some.
What this looks like in practice
Across the school, staff consistently use Positive Classroom Management Strategies, supported by the Department’s PCMS Placemat and Getting Started Guide. These strategies include:
-
Clear, school-wide expectations
Be Respectful • Be a Learner • Be Safe -
Explicit teaching of expected behaviours, so students know what success looks like in different settings
-
Consistent routines and predictable structures that reduce uncertainty and support self-regulation
-
Positive reinforcement, including classroom recognition, awards and whole-school acknowledgements
-
Daily social and emotional check-ins, such as circle time and wellbeing prompts, to help students recognise and manage their emotions
-
Calm, orderly learning environments that maximise learning time and minimise disruption
Our belief
We believe that every child has the right to learn, and every teacher has the right to teach, in a setting that is structured, supportive and inclusive.
By using a shared, school-wide approach to behaviour, we help students develop the skills they need to manage emotions, make positive choices and engage successfully in learning.
